It’s Almost Christmas In Philly
You say “the worst part of the driving is over”
Even though it has only begun
This adventure we have embarked upon
Off to a good start
The mid-west in mid-December is colder than I could have imagined
But one can bare it with a worthy companion
We’re overtired, but we’ll manage
As gas station caffeine is our fuel
We’re setting forth with our baggage
It’s both emotional and literal
In this hire car, we’re on the right side though it feels wrong
Plug my phone in to play a folk song
It seems we came to look for the American dream without realising
It’s almost Christmas in Philly
They really go all out with these lights
This dense and decorative city is buzzing with suspense, as it will soon be draped in white
Run down so we fake ’til we feel wide awake
Long days longer nights on this road cloaked in ice
I sense you were stung, but I hope you can come to see
And know that you can lean on me
You say she broke your heart
You turned to art to ease the aching
She felt her mind was ever-changing
It all didn’t play out in the way that you thought nor the way you’d want
I know your wounds are still inflamed
It’s in the way you say her name out loud
But I have faith that it won’t be too long until someone who’ll take you as you are will be coming ‘round
Pitstops in ghost towns, see the landscape that surrounds
Turn gold in the light of the evening
In spite of hours travelling, time is rapidly passing us by my friend
And I’d do it all again though run down
But we fake ’til we feel wide awake
Long days longer nights on this road cloaked in ice
I sense you were stung, but I hope you have come to see
And know that you can lean on me
