Muslim Belal
Disappointment
Verse 1:
I didn’t know it would be like this
This ain’t what I signed up for
They told me things would get better
That’s what I get down and pray for
Why do we stand so divided?
Although we pray together, our hearts ain’t united
We don’t love each other, the way we love ourselves
Now, I don’t mean to sound negative
But it’s hard to find something positive
To say, when I feel this way
I’m a Jamaican Muslim, and I can find no place
In an Arabian’s home, a Pakistani’s home
A Bangladeshi’s home or a Somali’s home
Where do I call home? Is the mosque my home?
Why when I go for my prayer do they tell me, “Masjid closed”
Chorus: x2
We wear the same clothes, we love the same God
We read the same book, but does it touch our hearts?
Or are we, diseased, with this dunya and greed
Verse 2:
We should be embarrassed; we should be ashamed
Do we deserve the right to be called by these names?
‘Umar, Ahmad, Bilal, Muhammad
These should be the names of the righteous, the pious
Alhamdulillah, I travel, I’ve seen the Middle East
I see Muslims but no Islam in the streets
It says, grow your beard big and trim your moustache short
Instead we grow the moustache and the beard comes off
And the simplest wedding’s the best in the eyes of Allah
But we spend thousands on dresses, jewellery and cars
We’ve either got trouble reading or we didn’t read at all
The problem’s understanding or we just like breaking rules?
Chorus: x2
We wear the same clothes, we love the same God
We read the same book, but does it touch our hearts?
Or are we, diseased, with this dunya and greed
