The Hill Country Devil
Forever Gold
Open palms for the blood moon's shine
As the backbone bellows and the red oaks cry
God's not waiting to heed my beck and call
Onward to perdition, the crowd is standing tall
Where I dream I'm forever gold
Endlessly and forever gold
A whisper worth all them stories told
Some forlorn king
Forever gold
Out past the gallows in the ocean of the damned
Where widows are weeping and the bygone keepers dance
There's a lone pale light there casting shadows like a web
Someone's wrapped it up in twine as a farewell to the dead
That's where you'll find me
Cradling my head
Where I dream I'm forever gold
Endlessly and forever fold
A whisper worth all them stories told
Some forlorn king
Forever Gold
If I sign my name to stone
With the blood of every famous beast that's known
I may walk free into kingdom come
With a chorus of angels drawn
But if the sky's to fall tonight
In a blaze of red and white
I'll waltz before the thousand eyes
And I'll flaunt every scar of mine
And I'll dream I'm forever gold
Endlessly and forever gold
A whisper worth all them stories told
Some forlorn king
Forever gold
