Emperor X
ЩОДО НЕВІДОМОСТІ ДИВАНА КСЕНІЇ (Regarding the Unknown Status of Kseniya’s Couch)
Overhead
I hear the sirens
And the clock reads 2:03
Karoline in my dream
In antigravity
Performing on state TV
She's at work
She took the late shift
That's why she's not next to me
We're moving together
As soon as we can
Once we save enough to sign the lease
I walk slow to my mirror
I see my face in the mirror, and I think:
"is anyone else alive?
Is anyone else hearing this?"
Then a flash in the mirror
A yеllow blast in the mirror, and I think:
"is Yaroslav's cat alright?
Is Kseniya's couch on fire tonight?"
Thеn time stops
Like in a plane crash, or a
Car crash, or a surgery
I can't speak
I grab my keys, I grab my passport
And I grab my phone
And I call Karoline
On the second story
Of the Office of Emergencies
Where she works overtime
Because it affords us the deposit
On our first real flat
But she can't pick up
And I'm still stuck at my mirror
Until the blast wave shatters the mirror, and I think:
"is anyone else alive?
Is everyone's house on fire tonight?"
Then shards of the mirror
Fly off of the mirror at my face
And I run to the fire escape
And barely miss the collapse
Then Karoline calls:
"it's so good to hear your voice
We got hit, but everyone got out okay"
It's weirdly quiet
Once the ambulances disappear
We lucked out
Because Lev's on vacation
And the neighbor's gone
So no one died
I look down at my mirror
At least what's left of my mirror
Reflecting the sky at night
Face up in a pile of all my broken stuff
Then after kicking the mirror
I walk away from the mirror
And into the pre-dawn light
"I'll meet you after your shift
Once we get an all-clear"
Then we get an all-clear
Is anyone else alive?
I'm not feeling it
