Dreams We’ve Had
Interlude 9D
Spoken:
Dear friend
It's been a long time since I've seen you
Your deep cloud eyes and long blonde hair don't escape my memories
Nor does all the time we spent alone dreaming
We dreamt of days we grew blackbird wings and sailed away but only got so far

Dear friend, I loved
Nights spent traipsing around quiet black fields
We build that tree fort against the hill and hid it behind some leaves lest anyone found out about it
Sometimes it got cold, and I put my arm around you

Dear friend, I loved you
And even when you show up with bruises on your face, I still thought you were pretty
We'd gaze at stars and thought about flying into ocean waters
Or over the bridge to anywhere

Dear friend, I loved you more than anyone else
And I wrote songs about you on the piano in my living room
I never showed them to you because I couldn't sing very well
Or because I couldn't stand to see you cry
The thin whips of time flew by when I was gonna tell you but they'd died
I loved you and didn't want to lose you

Dear friend, you are more than a friend
My special friend, my only friend
But one day you were gone
And that night I went to your window and cried with you
And showed you the crushed, withered wildflowers I'd kept from our first blackbird dream
Dear friend, I'm sorry I never told you that I love you
And I hope that someday I too will grow my blackbird wings
