Elizabeth Gerardi
October
I took out my sweaters
Prepared myself for the worst
Worrying we were approaching our expiration date

I watched my father
Take the boat out of the water
Now the tourists have gone back to their landlocked states

I thought that we would end like the movies
September would come and you’d leave
Everything changes with the trees
But not you and me

Oh Summers over
Oh the weathers colder
But I’ve still got your sweater around my shoulders
We made it to October
Now we’re sip-sipping on cider
Keeping warm by the fire
Just another reason to hold each other tighter
October October

I thought we would be just a summer fling
But now I see that it’s the real thing
Now I’m not scared of what the wind brings
October October

You said I look too good in my plaid skirt
I’m turning up the temperature
It’s a cool 55 outside nice and crisp

Everything’s golden this time of year
Sweet cinnamon fills the air
Honey skies in your eyes my kind of bliss

Now we’re watching scary movies and I squeeze your hand
I bury my face in your chest, boy like you had it planned
You ask if you can kiss me, but you know that you can
You know that you can
Oh Summers over
Oh the weathers colder
But I’ve still got your sweater around my shoulders
We made it to October
Now we’re sip-sipping on cider
Keeping warm by the fire
Just another reason to hold each other tighter
October October

There’s no where better than New England (in October)
No one better to spend it with (No One)
When winter comes
I’ll welcome it, welcome it

Oh Summers over
Oh the weathers colder
But I’ve still got your sweater around my shoulders
We made it to October
Now we’re sip-sipping on cider
Keeping warm by the fire
Just another reason to hold each other tighter
October October

I thought we would be just a summer fling
But now I see that it’s the real thing
Now I’m not scared of what the wind brings
