Olive Dakota
Tulip. (Version 2)
“my first love”

I was a roadside sea of green, leafy something.
The first time our eyes met, a single flower began to bloom inside me.
I nicknamed you “Tulip”.
Your scarlet lips matched the petals of the hidden flower.
Its stem was the same shade of green as your favorite shirt.
I watched the busy college kids come and go without even noticing
This striking contrast, red on green, “is it Christmas?” mouthed one to his friend.
It has been five years and still
Only one flower blooms.
