Only I Will Remain
"I must not fear
Fear is the mind-killer
Fear is the little-death
That brings total obliteration."
Who put the petals of lead onto our eyelids?
How did we end up so sad?
We stand unable to speak
And all of our misdeeds
Just sit in shame upon our cheeks
And someday the sun’ll burn forests and ignite the air
And someday the sun’ll make the oceans boil up out of despair
I am not waiting for my hopes
To grow higher than trees
Too high and the devil sees
I am not waiting another minute, another year
Have I suffered beyond repair?
Will I pull through the night
Trying to force out all my demons back into the light?
(I just want to get one thing right)
Doesn’t take a special kind of trick
Or a dire way of things to make a person weak
(I just want to give up with pride)
And someday the sun’ll burn forests and ignite the air
And someday the sun’ll make the oceans boil up out of despair
I won’t sit around and guess
Or wait for someone to confess
Once the heads have rolled
Well you trust me to be good
But will you stand still if I shoot
As the clues unfold?
"I will face my fear
I will permit it to pass over me and through me
And when it has gone past
I will turn the inner eye to see its path
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing
Only I will remain."
