butterscotch-pie: ooh interesting. i honestly don't remember my very first time using the site, but before i joined i used it to look up the lyrics to random songs, and i thought the annotation feature was super neat!! even though it was all RG tates that were like one sentence and a twerking gif 😄

MERLYN: twerking 'tates – those were the good ol' days! i know you started genius when you were pretty young, so i'm a little surprised you were looking at explicit stuff 😏 how old were you exactly when you first started contributing?

butterscotch-pie: hmmm i was either 12 or 13, i dont remember exactly 😄
i'll say 13 cause u aint supposed to have an account at a younger age 😄

anyway, what kind of songs did you contribute to when you first started?

butterscotch-pie: i wrote some suggestions/edits on pop songs by like rachel platten, but most of the stuff i was listening to at the time was already tated! but then i found the lyrics to some Minecraft parody songs and i was like ":OOOO this is gonna be my thing!!" so i mainly contributed to songs based on video games, especially minecraft and undertale
pretty epic right 😏

MERLYN: it doesn't get much more epic than that 😏 i know there are a lot of minecraft fans on genius (@scopey, @matt, and myself included) so... minecraft genius server????

moving on, your contributions to video game songs eventually led to you starting game genius – that's legendary! what happened to that?

butterscotch-pie: ok game genius was actually a thing before i joined, but i became the main person working on it and like the de facto leader? & i guess what happened is i just kinda lost interest because the site moved away from its "annotate the world" mentality with the web annotator & Screen Genius & Lit Genius etc., and put all of its focus into lyrics. so i didn't really feel like continuing to put in work on this thing that wasn't really synergetic with the direction the higher-ups were taking genius in

well basically, in the video game undertale (which as i previously mentioned i annotated songs about), there's an item called the butterscotch pie that goat mom Toriel gives to u. and its super useful cause it restores all ur health!! anyways i chose that for my username because i liked the game, it was related to what i was annotating on genius, and pie is tasty 😄

MERLYN: just to drop some more knowledge on the noobs: ludacris once called bsp's name "interesting" so you know its legit 😏
