[@CurlyHaris] Hey! So like I ask everyone to, describe your start to 2021.

[@charityspicer] I feel like in 2020 I was kinda in survival mode and didn't have much focus. So I'm just tryna have more concentration and intention with everything I do whether that be my friendships, hobbies, or relationship with God. That's what I'm "focusing" on currently and hoping for a slightly better year!

[@CurlyHaris] If only "survival mode" was an exaggeration! I think we all fell off the bandwagon with our commitments and concentration and it's good to hear that I wasn't alone in that. You mentioned a couple of things there - why have you chose them in particular, and what are you hoping to do differently in your approach compared to last year?

[@charityspicer] Especially the past six months or so, I've really slacked in a lot of areas because I just didn't either have the motivation or time. It's a bit challenging to be intentional with my friendships at the moment because of lockdown but I guess just making sure I stay consistent with reaching out to people is what I wanna be better at. I also wasn't spending as much time as usual with my Bible studies because not having church in-person has made it difficult for me to find motivation. But I'm hopeful that that'll change.

[@CurlyHaris] I hope so too, spirituality is a huge grounding tool for many people, and it's important that those people are able to freely access it if they need to. We can't speak without delving into this, but you must have the coolest name on Genius, if not the world! Is there a story behind it? And if so, tell us more!

[@charityspicer] For sure! Ahaha, according to many people, I guess so. When I originally created an account I didn't know people used "made up" names so I just used my actual name. Charity comes from a scripture in 1 Corinthians 13 KJV so my parents just randomly picked that lol. I really don't know the origin around "Spicer" but I guess my ancestors sold spices (laughs).

[@CurlyHaris] Thanks for the insight there. It's safe to say I wasn't particularly creative with my name, and I remember the slack-turned-discord group finding out your Genius name was your IRL name and how surprised we were! Speaking of Christianity, I couldn't help but notice your announcement post of the Christian Music Revival! As someone who's working on their own revival and seeing you launch yours, I can certainly empathise with the energy it takes... what are you most looking forward to, and do you expect any challenges along the way?

[@charityspicer] I'm not very good at coming up with usernames either lol. It's really nice to have everything logged and organized (I'm a little OCD about it lol). I'm hoping that we can grow better as a community because right now we're really just relying on each other as editors to make sure everything's running properly. I'd like to see some new whitehats join and new editors but I'm sure it'll be a challenge too. Excited for what the future holds!

[@CurlyHaris] You make an interesting point, and it is a brick wall that I've ran into in not getting the immediate impact of new whitehats flooding into the forum, but Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither is a Genius community revival it seems! By doing all this, it's clear you care for Genius and the site - what does it mean to you in words, rather than actions?!

[@charityspicer] I just love the way it works and all the opportunities Genius has given me. I've met some amazing people and it's so cool to see all of the community unite under this common "umbrella" of music. I don't think I could ever leave because of how great the site is and even during my breaks and busier times I still love to return back to it. I'm really keen on being productive in my free time so I enjoy contributing to something I love and helping out artists and listeners overall.

[@Curlyharis] From wishes of exaggeration at the start to severe understatements now, as to say productive would not do you justice! It's great to see you so prominent in the forums guiding people to the right places and answering queries. What you said is certainly returned tenfold given how much we enjoy your company! More on the free time aspect of things, what do you get up to when it's not Genius?

[@charityspicer] Appreciate the kind words! I love taking pictures and documenting my outdoor surroundings which is always fun. Unfortunately, because of COVID, I feel like my photos are kinda boring and all nature since that's all I can safely take pictures of haha. I also enjoy reading and writing (evidently lol) so I try to pick up a good book when I have the time or go to the library which is closed atm :/. I'm trying my best to stay active during the pandemic but I probably should put a little more effort into it.

[@CurlyHaris] There's a few of us who share a knack for photography, the NF lyric "I heard the pictures don't change, just the people inside of 'em do," has stuck with me as it encapsulates the idea of documenting stuff, but I’m also a sucker for sunsets and landscape shots! What's the coolest thing you've captured on camera when you have been able to get active?
[@charityspicer] Yes, (Shoutout @kingkillmonger and @jambi)! And nice NF reference. I can't think of a specific thing but shooting photos of artists is so cool. I live for concert photography.

[@CurlyHaris] As discussed in my interview with @ChloeConlon, it is crazy just how of an impact COVID has had on things like concerts, and just how limited we really are as a result of current restrictions. You've almost pre-emptively done it, and we briefly discussed it earlier, but are there any standout figures on the site you'd like to shout out?!

[@charityspicer] Absolutely, it looks like all we can do is make the best of what we have for however long this lasts! And yes! Huge shoutout to @CalebMcKinion! I definitely wouldn't be here without him. @benrodz, @xMERLYN, @peaker, @EduardoVL, @inewton, @JustJase, @masterhype, and countless others all have a special place in my heart! Yay Genius!

[@CurlyHaris] All great names and mentions! I remember arguing over what was definitely a stretch of an annotation on my part with Caleb (fun times). Becoming an Ed really does change the way you think and critique things, and referring to your own ambitions, what does the future hold for you on Genius? Where would you like to end up on the roadmap? - and do you have any nuggets of advice for those wishing to follow in your editorial footsteps?

[@charityspicer] Definitely haha. I'm not sure tbh, but I want to hopefully write a few Genius articles in the foreseeable future although I've done a lot of write-ups already for the end-of-year lists. I always want to ensure that I make quality contributions and benefit the community of Genius and music now and in the future. All I can say is work hard, have a growth mindset and that'll take you far in any space!

[@CurlyHaris] Powerful words to end on, thanks for your time.

[@charityspicer] Of course, thanks for the chat <3.
