Mary Lambert
I Am the Ascent
(Verse 1)
This is where I hurl myself to a pack of snarling dogs
Where my fingers unfurl and claim to call themselves more than mere skin on metal car poles
If I feel your hands slide by my side again
I think I might scream from being wanted

(Chorus)
This is where I scream

(Verse 2)
This is where all of my poems live
And other beautiful body parts that I asked to borrow
Right here, underneath your 4 finger and thumb
I am pinned to this idea of you
And I don't know when my lips stumble onto yours
But this is when PBR starts to taste like a decent beer
And when crashing my body into yours sounds like the greatest fucking idea I've ever had
This is where my hands stop calling themselves accidents
At this point I'm very much holding your nakedness on purpose

(Verse 3)
I got to see the sun rise this morning over a long stretch of I-5
From the roof of my mouth to the crevasses behind my teeth
I am tingling so electric
This is where I become the sunrise
Slow, shock blue, and disgustingly beautiful
Watch my ascent
