Woke Up in My Future
You don’t lie to me, and for all of your poison I enjoy your company
All the colors that you hide behind your mouth like poetry
As you slowly take me prisoner I swallow up the key
Don’t call and don’t write, you’re quietly courageous and we own the night, naked and contagious we turn off the lights hoping that nobody hears us
And no fortune lady is gonna come and save me
No god will ride the escalator down to the Midwest
And I might be crazy but at least I got my baby and we’re free inside the bars that keep us deep within my chest
When I was small, long long before I knew you
I knew how to stand tall
I knew how to breathe without you
And I spoke to the dead before I learned how to fear them, they sat with me on my bed
Watched me as I slept and I felt safe and sound
A leader with my confidence, I cut the evil down with a sword of common sense
I took care of things I loved with all my heart
What happened to these things? It’s like I woke up in my future…
And no fortune lady is gonna come and save me
No god will ride the escalator down to the Midwest
And I might be crazy but at least I got my baby and we’re free inside the bars that keep us deep within my chest
