jacob killed a cat (Explained)
I was in New York, it was late at night like 1 or 2 am and I had been recording voice memos of a bunch of different chord progressions on guitar but I wasn't inspired lyrically and I was getting really frustrated and my phone thought that I was still at the bar that had just been at earlier that night called "Jakes Dilemma". So it kept naming my voice memos "Jakes Dilemma 1" and "2" and so on and it reminded me of someone in my past and the song came to me right there.

"jacob killed a cat" is a retelling of a memory that I have of two different situations I had in middlе school, I think? Where at the timе I wasn't able to say the things that I wanted to say. I was such a crier as a kid, and I still am but..crying, especially as a boy in middle school, its seen as such a weakness and this song is about how I and these other boys we all denied ourselves a chance at true emotional honesty and connection in favour of silence or, as the title suggests, violence.

My friend, Jake Minch generously agreed to sing backup vocals on this song. When I was working on this song I met up with him in the city and we had conversation about our pasts and we realised we'd been through really similar things and it, it just felt so right and lovely to have him contribute to this song. Im so thankful it worked out.
