RG Reviews - Eminem’s Music to Be Murdered By
The album overall was a very polarizing one for the Genius community, which is to be expected from Eminem at this point. Controversial albums are his M-O! With that being said, there were definitely some very positive perspectives on the album, with many thinking that it was a good comeback from Kamikaze and found Em back in his natural habitat of wordplay galore. Users commented that they enjoyed Eminem returning to having mainly hip-hop features on his records, with verses from Black Thought on “Yah Yah” and Royce da 5’9” on “You Gon’ Learn” sticking out as good traditional features, and Juice WRLD’s posthumous feature on the chorus of “Godzilla” pleasing the newer-age fans. Many also agreed that the theme Em chose of interpolating Albert Hitchcock’s Music to Be Murdered By was also an interesting and productive choice for the record.

Of course, negative reviews were also seen. Many viewed this as just a continuation of Em’s fall-off that has been seen over his past few records with the aforementioned Kamikaze as well as Revival. Many view Em’s wordplay and technical priority as damaging to his lyrics, even noting the nonsense he spits during his “fastest rapping ever” on his “Godzilla.” Most complaints were seen in Em’s wordplay, with users calling it “corny” and “annoying.”
