Great Astronomical Discoveries, Pt. 2
CHORUS
Great Astronomical Discoveries
Lately made by Sir John Herschel
At the Cape of Good Hope
Continued from last week's Sun

ROSE
If you didn’t have time to wrap your head
Around a lunar forest or flower bed
Certainly a pyramid would make you quake
But John pressed on, make no mistake

SAMUEL
All along the base of a mountain range
Our hero spotted something that was truly strange
Grazing in the fields of the valley below
Were creatures similar to buffalo
ROSE
Buffalo?

SAMUEL
Yeah, let's start with buffalo

ROSE
Okay...
CHORUS
Oh, sir (Sir)
John (Sir John)
Herschel saw a buffalo
There's life (Life)
On (Life on)
The moon, and it’s quite a show

SAMUEL
His list grew long with flocks of birds
Lunar fish and antelopes movin’ in herds
“All new species,” Herschel said
“But no way does it end with quadrupeds”

ROSE, CHORUS
Oh, what do you know

ROSE
He was right again
Even though the creatures didn’t look like men
Similar to sphinx lounging on the Nile
Animals combined in many styles

SAMUEL
Some wouldn't hesitate to call them monsters
ROSE, SAMUEL
As we often label things that we don’t understand
But if you saw the way
That they carried their young
In their arms

CHORUS
Like humans do

ROSE, SAMUEL
The way they built fires
To keep warm

CHORUS
Like humans do

ROSE, SAMUEL
If it had been you
Looking through that telescope

MARGARET
You would have said that it was beautiful

CHORUS
But, who (Who)
Made (Who made)
Who made all the pyramids
You don’t (Don't)
Say (Say)
It was something that these creatures did
ROSE
Ending the journal entry here would be cruel

SAMUEL
You're right, it would be awful

ROSE
To make them wait another week to find out what happens?

SAMUEL
There would certainly be a riot

ROSE
… Let's do it
