Shifts (Reprise)
NARRATOR
The boarding party rowed from ship to ship
With the captain’s journal
And a sample of the wood they found
At the bow, Rose was smiling
The wind ran through her hair
John couldn’t help but stare
HERSCHEL
Everything shifts
I’d long decided
To stick to my strengths
Feelings stay at arm's length
But now there’s this
A land uncharted
She hit me so hard
And now she holds all the cards
I’ve sailed and soared around the world
On satellites and ships
I’ve built a wall ten miles high
Of essays, books, and quips
Then she speaks
And I feel weak
Everything shifts
The ground is thawing
If I wasn’t too proud
I would say this out loud…
MORGAN
John? Hey!
HERSCHEL
Oh… what?
ROSE
Are you even paying attention?
HERSCHEL
Yes, Miss Stratford, I’m…
MORGAN
Now tell me, what the hell is that off of our port?
NARRATOR
Low on the horizon
A dense cloud of fog
As dark as night
HERSCHEL
That’s no ordinary fog
NARRATOR
Not far in the distance
And getting closer
Speeding towards the ships
ROSE
Can we maybe row a little faster?
NARRATOR
The Austin threw a line
They made it just in time
MORGAN
All hands, brace for impact!
NARRATOR
The calm before the storm
Comes in many forms
