The Weight I Carry
THE WEIGHT I CARRY
Back in the day I used to believe in justice
Till it came to my notice that life isn't fair
The hard workers don't usually get paid the most
Doing hard jobs but can't afford a house on the coast
In a day ma mom works 28 hours in a government office
At 50 ma dad still lifts 80kg bags with no fork lifts
And our house still isn't floored, our walls still aren't painted
Most of ma relations live in houses that are rented
And we work so hard that our hands get blistered
Sweat can fill a drum but we're still in mid winter
Dad got two businesses but it's difficult to cover
Family of seven standing under a singlе umbrella
He sacrifices and falls victim of thе harshest of wethers
Many times it's difficult to pay for our school fee tellers
There is so many issues he gotta seat down to consider
Issues like my health, food, clothing and shelter
The water iz deep and we're tryna get outta the Delta, i
Sailing out with a boat, with water chugging down our throats
We can't wait out the storm we gotta outsail the storm
Kicker of the story, I've been in it since the day I was born
So when the family is pushing towards getting out, I'm like did we ever get in ?
I get that there is tragedy but it's already part of my Genes
So many plans, all leading to individual dead ends
Say we are a happy family no that's all juss pretence
I always feel like I'll loose so I never aim to win
The problem is that there's something wrong with me deep within
Sometimes I become to much of a burden I wanna split a vain
But somehow I don't know how God always seem to intervene
People usually say with no pain there can never be gain
If pain was the currency of wealth and joy ma life would have been a Disney movie
Many years of pain and many more that are groovy
Live happily ever after, ma statues and portraits through out the lobby
Easy way out no not everyone is lucky, l
Not everyone is fortunate to make money of their hobby
There's so much talent I've seen that's going to waste
I know that most people want to make it in a haste
Absolutely everyone wants the quickest route possible
But the quickest way to the top is hard work
But we don't wanna hear that because that conversation is true talk
Nobody likes the truth except when it's in they favour
The truth has only one flavour and it is bitter
And the truth about me is that I'm a lier
I'm a lazy ass n***a
Making up excuses, and calling them' reasons
I wanna be a millonier by the time I'm twenty two
But I'm too busy procrastinating, day dreaming and waiting for a hail Mary to fall from the sky
I'm done telling ma self all of this lies
Always throwing the blame for failing but the truth is that I never try
I look into the mirror I don't see any other Guy
All I see is me and now I'm scolding ma self and I don't even know why
I'm gonna put ma music on the shelves and mehn I hope people would buy

Verse 1:

One of the quickest ways to fall is to get comfortable
Comfortable with were you at
Being like I'm grateful to God, mehn I'm content with what I gat
Bro I hate to burst your bubble, cuz bro I love you, I can't live you bundled with perceptions that would land you in trouble
We are humans but out there, the open world, that is the jungle
Everybody aiming to conquer a lion of his and hers
Battling diseases, poverty, persevering through life with so many scars
Most are not on our backs but on our hearts
There's no time to be comfi, you always gotta be on the move
Even after retirement n***a be on the move
The moment you stop moving you're ten steps closer to being laid in a box of wood
It's not true that hard work brings success
Hard work is an important skill
Hard work is what's gonna get you meals
Hard work is only a quality to be a nominee
Its a stepping stone and not a guarantee
And not juss hard work, but hard work in the right direction
Cuz you can put in so much hard work that'll in turn make you bleed, yeah
