The Mary Wallopers
The Idler
[Verse 1]
Well don't blame the idler who sits on the corner
Sits on a corner a cup in their hand
But blame the ider who owns the apartments
Built by his cronies on ex-public lands

[Verse 2]
Don't blame the idler who does the odd nixer
Does the odd nixer while drawing the dole
But blame the landlord his car's like a Concorde
And he's charging fierce rent for a string of shitholes

[Verse 3]
Well don't blame the idler who sits on the barstool
Sits on the barstool besotted each day
But blame the clergy a-preaching "how dare thee?"
Pushing their baskets some subscriptions to pay

[Verse 4]
Well don't blame the idler not taxing his motor
Not taxing his motor when tax it he must
But blame the idler who stands at the checkpoint
Ah just doing his job while the tax rate's unjust

[Verse 5]
Well don't blame the idler who sits in the kitchen
Sits in the kitchen with needle and spoon
Oh, but blame the Blueshirts for austerity and budget cuts
That allow more young souls to perish too soon
[Verse 6]
Well don't blame the idler who comes to this country
Comes to this country a-seeking their home
But blame the idler who forgets their history
And says "Ireland is full I'll look after our own"

[Verse 7]
See don't blame the small man your brothers your sisters
Your brothers your sisters if they're blamed they might see
We live under a system not built to assist them
They survive on mere crumbs while the rich take the cream

[Verse 8]
So these the true idlers are far worse than any
They're far worse than any above or below
Oh they're poverty's patrons worse devils then Satan
And you can be sure straight to hell they will go
