The Van Pelt
Old Souls from Different Epochs
I caught your eye
Attracted by what I thought was an old soul
Amidst recent conscripts
If you're not from this time I thought, then neither am I

But unfortunately upon our attempted discourse
With our imagined pasts exposed
We see we're attracted by the length
But we've been pushed apart by the breadth

See you're dressed for the ball
In the garden of Schloss Shönbrunn
Waiting for an accomplice to make a run for the throne
While I'm in fur and sandals around the fire pit
Just happy to be alive

Yet I can't let you go
Because in your eyes I see a past
A past that I must have lived through too
Quite possibly with you
But in mine, in mine what do you see
And why would you even want it?

Yeah we're old souls, that's true
But from different epochs
Attracted by our length
Pushed apart by our breadth
