Emily Jane White
Mute Swan
I used to hold your hand in pain
A curve, an arc, wander through the haze
Who are you now? Can’t leave this terrain
Opaque the ground, silent refrain
Into the arms, embraced by all of someone
Enduring scarred, can’t be undone by someone
It’s taken hold of me
In everything I see
Affliction carries the knife dear
Mute swan holds the sound near
Blackened dawn holds the light near
And I live on into the night here
I can’t live and breathe your name
For you walk committing pain
A harm, a word, withering sane
You cut, you starve, wounded the same
Into the arms, embraced by all of someone
Enduring scarred, can’t be undone by someone
It’s taken hold of me
In everything I see
Affliction carries the knife dear
Mute swan holds the sound near
Blackened dawn holds the light near
And I live on into the night here
