Burn & Scar
The past’s pale pornography, it don’t stir me
Oh it feels the same sometimes
What people do to escape misery is not fair and it’s not ugly
Poetry and bodies, coming to your party, don’t hold this against me now
The time’s taciturn technology, it don’t disturb me
But will it feel the same next time?
And what i do to escape necessity, well it’s fair if it’s not legal
Mac machines and epiphany have had their way with me, don’t hold this against me now
And the weeks go by, and the weeks gone by
And you watch them all out of the corner of your eye, looking at me for a sign
Never meant to work so hard, never meant to get so scarred
And you’re not sure where you are
The future’s patient promises, they can’t fulfill me
Will it be the same each time?
And what people do with their capacity, it’s not fair and it’s not pretty
I went and paid my rent today, it comes with the territory, don’t hold this against me now
And the years go by, have the years gone by?
Have you watched them all, have the corners of your eyes become lined?
Never meant to work so hard, to be so proud of your scars
To be so sure who you are, to be so sure who you are
