Peter Hammill
Door (Live)
[Spoken Intro]
Uh, the next song is a little bit odd, about - yes, well, well, may you laugh - it's odd, perhaps, in its simplicity. It has two occupants of the scenario, but both of them are little bit fictional. Somehow or other, they or he or she or it are there in a room and they try to work out where the door is

[Instrumental Intro]

[Verse 1]
He’s a blind man, crouching by the pavement
She's only seeing with his third eye
And clutching at the astral shadows
Of every passer-by

[Verse 2]
He's a wild man, trumping all the answers;
She’s a wild girl, trying to keep his feet on the floor
In whispered physical litaniеs:
"Stay away from the door"

[Verse 3]
"Oh, but we're all in this togеther", he says
"Three-legged race across the floor;
If only you'd loosen the handkerchief
Then I'd forget the door"

[Verse 4]
"Ooh, that feels so much better", he says
"Now you forget everything that I've said before
And sit there all by yourself
While I walk through the door"
They're a blind man, crouching by the pavement
Only seeing with his third eye
And clutching at the astral shadows
Of the door of a room called 'I'
