I am a modern man
I exceed expectation, I give a good God damn!
I am an honest man
I love my wife and children, I love my nine to five
I am not losing it…
I thrive in knowing that I can always be replaced
My suit it barely fits!
I've swelled and sweated through it, that sweet smell of success!
You were in pieces on the side of the road
I stopped to put you back together, I collected all your bones
And all the muscle not picked apart by vultures
You are the added weight I carry on my back
Your blood pulled down by gravity and pooling in my pack
The pool has sprung a leak and bonded with my sweat
You are a sticky mass decaying in the heat
I'd like to stop and let time run its course and let the insects eat
But I am older now and have no where to be
Given purpose I could flourish once again
Alas I cannot seem to put you back together or in place
I am not the man I thought I'd grow to be!
