Robert Hazard
Shadow
I don't know where he come from, the rain was pourin' down
I thought I saw a movement, I thought I heard a sound

Then I looked behind me into the howlin' of the wind
He was standin' in my footsteps, right where my feet had been

He's a bad dog, he barks too much
He bites the hand that feeds
Sometimes he's a lot like you and me

He's a bad dog, I started out to live this life alone
But shadow followed me home

He follows me to grocery, he follows me to church
He follows me to bed at night, he'd go through hell or worse

He chewed up all my carpets, he wrecked my happy home
He sat down in my favorite chair and said, "Go find your own"

He's a bad dog, he barks too much
He bites the hand that feeds
Sometimes he's a lot like you and me

He's a bad dog, I started out to live this life alone
But shadow followed me home

I took him down that highway, and chained him to a tree
Put fifty miles of blacktop between that dog and me
I don't know how he did it, that night at half past four
He's out there on my front porch scratchin' at the door

He's a bad dog, he barks too much
He bites the hand that feeds
Sometimes he's a lot like you and me

He's a bad dog, I started out to live this life alone
But shadow followed me home

Sometimes we think we're happy, sometimes we think we're free
Got ev'rything we wanted, ev'rything we need

But all the dreams I dreamed of are shrouded now in doubt
And the thing I never wanted I just can't live without
He's a bad dog, he barks too much
He bites the hand that feeds
Sometimes he's a lot like you and me

He's a bad dog, I started out to live this life alone
But shadow followed me home
But shadow followed me home
But shadow followed me home
But shadow followed me home
