Misunderstood
[Intro: Nina Simone]
Baby, you understand me now
If sometimes you see that I'm mad
No one can always be an angel
When everything goes wrong you see some bad
Well I'm just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood

[Cameron J]
As a youngin' a brother was raised in a church
As a result of being the pastor's son I was perched
High on a pedestal
As a role model for the kids to mimic
A gimmick for the church's religious intentions
When ask if I'd like to join my father's line of work
I'd hide my frustrations behind a smirk
Because I started to doubt that a man from the clouds had made us all from dirt
Revealing this to some friends got me dirty looks
All because I don't believe an inconsistent unrealistic primitive book
They said since I don't believe in God the Devil's side I had took
But despite the spite again I opened up
To two cousins I hold dear
But when I told them what did I hear
Laughter
And they said in a phase I was hooked
Haven't told my parents because I'm scared we won't see eye to eye
And because of this belief I am afraid I'll be

[Hook: Nina Simone]
Misunderstood
Cause we are - Misunderstood
Misunderstood, Don't let me be misunderstood
I'm just human, oh

[Cameron J]
Ironically this was acting like a demon on my shoulder but the angel wasn't present
She was late as I contemplate my fate
Guess she was stuck in heaven
Or perhaps she was held back by triple sevens
Since he and his following think that my decision to go against the Christian religion
Isn't anyway to be giving meaning to living
But look at you
Claiming you hate fruits
While you're cherry picking that same religion to suit your preferred way of existence
Dirt in your holy water
Don't sip that filthy whine
Scripture written in dull lead don't let it squint your eyes
Reference religion question specifics then it's a crime
But you just wonder why it tends to contradict at times
Don't get so caught up in traditions you restrict your mind
Any man can claim a truth doesn't mean he isn't lying
Men say they can guide me to God
I say if men didn't guide God to the sky they'd be no God at all
Atheists aren't trying to cause the downfall of a nation
The thought of religion being your vocation is probably a byproduct of indoctrination
So put on trial your so called calling
We only become appalled when you use your doctrine to infringe on the population
But in the end our message is

[Hook]
