Hard to Ignore (These Nights)
I feel good when I’m on my grind
Wrapped in my life, letting my light shine
Beats, rhymes, and life, putting in that time
Trying to keep it going, this little light of mine
If I could, I’d stay in my bubble
Float away at the first sign of trouble
Keep out my space, you know I’m doing me
I’ll let you do you, individuality
Things are getting hard to ignore
Life is always creeping up knocking at your door
I’m feeling purged out, I try to close my mind
Shut the world out, this is my time
Don’t bring your problems, don’t bring me your cross
I won’t bear your burdens, I’m no Jesus Christ
If you got issues, don't extend your hand
But these nights, never seem to go as planned
You heard them gunshots, you saw them kids cry
Tuning in every night, the news is on at five
And at six o'clock, back to flipping stations
Switching satellites to fictional situations
We invent problems, TNT knows drama
CBS told me how you met your mama
I got a Break Bad, then find something funny
Then they tell me how I got to spend my money
And in the meantime, far away from me
They got earthquakes, hurricanes tsunamis
Be a savior that’ll cost me five
Am I saint, give em ten, save a child’s life
It’s easy, just send a text
Make it simple, dumb it down, then what’s next
Flip the station, stare at my set
Set my DVR, I’ve become the walking dead
That’s all people register
Too much truth then we drowning in this atmosphere
Tuning out the truth cause we don’t want to hear
Action’s too hard, and doing nothing’s so much easier
Hands up, don’t shoot, that’s the next anthem
Until we lose steam and we forget about Ferguson
Or what about Trayvon,, what about the mothers
What do you tell your black son when you tuck him into covers
2014 what happened to our civil rights
People protesting like it’s '65
Even as I write this song, I'm questioning my own self
The finger I’m pointing is at my own blood cells
But I’m a step to it, try to use the system
Twist it to my benefit and then offer up my wisdom
And in the meantime, I’m a deranged man
Cause' these nights never ever seem to go as planned
