Eddie Vedder
Given To Fly - Live in Boston, Massachusetts, 29-August-2000
[Verse 1]
He could've tuned in, tuned in
But he tuned out
A bad time, nothing could save him
Alone in a corridor, waiting, locked out
He got up outta there, ran for hundreds of miles
He made it to the ocean, had a smoke in a tree
The wind rose up, set him down on his knee
A wave came crashing like a fist to the jaw
Delivered him wings, "Hey, look at me now"
Arms wide open with the sea as his floor
Oh, power, oh

[Chorus]
He's flying
Whole
High wide, oh

[Verse 2]
He floated back down cause he wanted to share
His key to the locks on the chains he saw everywhere
Oh but first he was stripped and then he was stabbed
By faceless men, well, fuckers
He still stands
And he still gives his love, he just gives it away
The love he receives is the love that is saved
And sometimes is seen a strange spot in the sky
A human being that was given to fly
[Chorus]
He's flying
Whole
High wide, oh

[Spoken Word: Eddie Vedder]
Alright. To be honest, it's nice to be anywhere, but it's nice to be here, again. What an extraordinary welcome. Anyways, we're gonna continue on. Actually, before we continue on, we should thank a few people for coming out before, and feeding me lunch, breakfast, and dinner for the past two days. And then playing a great show on top of the evening with technical difficulties, with Sonic Youth. In October, this group of people will celebrate - well, I don't know if we're gonna celebrate - but we're gonna come to terms with the fact we've been together for 10 years. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever. It doesn't seem like such a big deal, when you consider that next year Sonic Youth will have been together for 20. So, may we all be so lucky in our relationships and our ability to get along. Anyways, enough with that. We're gonna continue with the first single after the last record called "Nothing As It Seems."
