Owl & Mouse
Don’t Read the Classics
There's a bookshop on my high street
Full of novels I'd like to read
Though they used to seem attractive
You have put me off the classics
I don't bother with Camus, Jane Austen, Oscar Wilde, Charles Dickens
Cause my darling when I see them laid them out there
My heartbeat quickens
And my pulse races
And I think of the places
I could be if I weren't stuck here with me
Wondering how I managed
To let you fool me one more time
And how I'm hopeless because I care
And how you're fearless when I'm not there
And how you're gutless when I am
And how I'd wished you could've been a fucking man
And just been honest, and told me straight
That I'm not perfect
But this was great
It's been fun and I've had my uses
Once you've come I am useless
So you should know from now on
If you call me I won't come
I'm tired of trying to believe you're kind
And pretending that I don't mind
When you forget or you ignore
And show me that you're not worth caring for
I might look strong but I am weak
And when I see you I just break
So I won't
Because I can't
And I know now from the start
