Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan
Tere Ishq Ki Intehaa Chahta Hoon
Naala hai bulbul-e-shourida tera khaam abhi
[O dejected nightingale your lament is immature, still]
Apne seene mein isse aur zara thaam abhi
[You should hold it in your heart for a little while, still]

Pukhta hoti agar muslehat andaish ho aqal
[If the intellect is prudent, it is considered mature]
Ishq ho muslihat andaish to hai khaam abhi
[If love is prudent, it is considered immature, still]

Beqadar kood pada aatish-e-namrood mein ishq
[Love fearlessly jumped into the fire of Namrood]
Aqal hai mehv-e-tamasha-e-lab-e-baam abhi
[Intellect is absorbed in the spectacle from roof-top, still]

Ishq farmouda-e-qasid se sabak gham-e-amal
[Love moves fast into action under the messenger's precept]
Aqal samjhi hi nahi maani ye paigaam abhi
[Intellect has not even understood the message of Love, still]

Shewa-e-ishq hai azadi-o-dehr ashobi
[The way of love is freedom and world revolution]
Tu hai zunnari-e-butkhana-e-ayyam abhi
[You are imprisioned in the day and night's temple]

Tere ishq ki inteha chahta hoon
[Completion of your Love is what I desire]
Meri saadgi dekh, kya chahta hoon
[Look at my sincerity, what little I desire]
Tere ishq mein, Tere ishq mein...
[In your love, in your love]

Ishq teri inteha, ishq meri inteha
[Love is your end, Love is my end]
Tu bhi abhi na tamaam, mein bhi abhi na tamaam
[Neither you are complete yet, nor am I complete yet]

Tere ishq mein, Tere ishq mein...
[In your love, in your love]

Agar ho ishq toh hai kuffar bhi Musalmaani
[As good as Muslim's true belief, if blessed with love, unfaith is eke]
Na ho toh Mard-e-Musalman bhi kafir-o-zandeeq
[Bereft of Love a Muslim true, is no better than Zandeeq]

Banaya ishq ne dariya na-payda karan mujh ko
[By the mighty force of Love, I am turned into Boundless Deep]
ye meri khud nigahdari mera sahil na ban jaye
[I fear that my self-regard, Me, for aye, on shore may keep]

Tere ishq mein, Tere ishq mein...
[In your love, in your love]

Rulaati hai mujhe raaton ko khaamoshi sitaron ki
[The stars' silence at night makes me weep]
Niraala ishq hai mera, niraale mere nale hai
[Strange my Love is, strange my Laments are]
Ishq dam-e-jibraeel, ishq dam-e-mustafa
[Love is the breath of Gabriel, Love is the heart of Holy Prophet]
Ishq Khuda ka rasool, Ishq Khuda ka kalaam
[Love is the messenger of God. Love is the Word of God]

Tere ishq mein, Tere ishq mein...
[In your love, in your love]

Aqal-o-dil-o-nigah ka murshid-e-awaleen hai ishq
[Intellect, heart and vision, all must take their first lessons from Love]
Ishq na ho toh sharaa-o-deen, boutkudda'ay tasawwuraat
[Religion and the religious law breed idols of illusion if there is no Love]

Sidq-e-khalil bhi hai ishq, sabr-e-hussain bhi hai ishq
[The truthfulness of Abraham is but a form of Love, and so is the patience of Hussain]
Maarka'ay wajood mein badar-o-hunain bhi hai ishq
[And so are Badr and Hunayn in the battle of existence]

Tere ishq mein, Tere ishq mein...
[In your love, in your love]

Jamal-e-ishq-o-masti ne-nawazi
[The beauty of mystic love is shaped in song]
Jalal-e-ishq-o-masti be-niazi
[The majesty of mystic love is abandon]
Kamal-e-Ishq-o-masti zaraf-e-Haider
[The peak of mystic love is Haider's power]
Zawal-e-ishq-o-masti harf-e-razi
[The decline of mystic love is Razi's word]

Tere ishq mein, Tere ishq mein...
[In your love, in your love]

Kabhi awara-o-be-khanama ishq
[At time, Love is a wanderer who has no home]
Kabhi shah-e-shahan Nausherwan ishq
[And at times it is Nausherwan, the King of Kings]

Kabhi maidan mein ata hai zaraposh
[At times it comes to the battlefield in full armour]
Kabhi uryan-e-be-taeg-o-sanaa ishq
[And at times naked and weaponless]

Tere ishq mein, Tere ishq mein...
[In your love, in your love]

Kabhi tanhai-e-koh-o-daman ishq
[Love, sometimes is the solitude of Nature]
Kabhi souz-o-suroor-o-anjuman ishq
[It is sometimes, merrymaking and company seeking]

Kabhi sarmaya-e-mehrab-o-manbar
[Sometimes the legacy of the mosque and the pulpit]
Kabhi maula Ali khaibar shikan ishq
[Sometimes Lord Ali the Vanquisher of the Khyber]

Tere ishq mein, Tere ishq mein...
[In your love, in your love]

Tere ishq ki inteha chahta hoon
[Completion of your Love is what I desire]
Meri saadgi dekh, kya chahta hoon
[Look at my sincerity, what little I desire]

Tere ishq mein, Tere ishq mein...
[In your love, in your love]

Yeh jannat mubaarak rahe zahidon ko...
[May the pious be happy with this Paradise]

Umeed-e-hoor ne sab kuch sikha rakha hai waaiz ko
[Expectation of the Houri has taught everything to the preacher]
Ye hazrat dekhne mein seedhe saadhe bhole bhaale hai
[Only in appearance simple and straight forward these people are]

Yeh jannat mubaarak rahe zahidon ko...
[May the pious be happy with this Paradise]
Ke mein aapka saamna chahta hoon
[Only to see your Countenance, I desire]

Kabhi ae-haqeekat-e-muntazir, nazar aa libas-e-majaz mein
[For once, O awaited reality, reveal yourself in a form material]
Ke hazaro sajde tadap rahe hai teri jabeen-e-niaz mein
[For a thousand prostrations are quivering eagerly in my submissive brow]

Ke mein aapka saamna chahta hoon...
[Only to see your Countenance, I desire]

Koi dam ka mehmaan hoon ae ahl-e-mehfil
[O assembly's companions! I am existing only for a few moments]

Nahi begaangi achhi rafiq-e-raah-e-manzil se
[Being a stranger to the journey's companion is not good]
Theher ja ae sharar, hum bhi toh aakhir mitne waale hai
[O spark! Wait, after all we are also going to disappear]

Koi dam ka mehmaan hoon ae ahl-e-mehfil...
[O assembly's companions! I am existing only for a few moments]
charagh-e-seher hoon, bujha chahta hoon...
[I am the dawn's candle, I am about to be extinguished]

Sitam ho ke ho waada-e-behijaabi...
[It may be oppression or the promise of unveiling]
Koi baat sabr aazma chahta hoon
[Something testing my perseverance I desire]

Ishq bhi ho hijaab mein, husn bhi ho hijaab mein
[Love concealed, and beauty too]
Ya tu khud ashkaar ho ya mujhe ashkaar kar
[Reveal yourself to me, or reveal me to myself]

Koi baat sabr aazma chahta hoon...
[Something testing my perseverance I desire]

Bhari bazm mein raaz ki baat keh di...
[I have divulged the secret in the full assembly]
Bada be-adab hoon, sazaa chahta hoon
[I am very insolent, punishment I desire]

Agar kaj ra hain anjum, asman tera hai ya mera
[If the stars have strayed-To whom does the heaven belong, You or Me?]
Mujhe fikr-e-jahan kyun ho, jahan tera hai ya mera
[Why must I worry about the world-To whome does the world belong, Your or me?]

Agar hungaama ha'ay shauq se hai la-makan khali
[If the placeless realm offers no lively scenes of passion and longing]
Khata kis ki hai ya Rab, la-makan tera hai ya mera
[Whose fault is that, my Lord?-Does that realm belong to You or Me?]

Usse subah-e-azal inkaar ki jurrat hui kyu kar
[On the morning of eternity he dared to say 'No']
Mujhe maloom kya, woh razdaan tera hai ya mera
[But how would I know why? - Is he your confidant, or is he mind?]

Muhammad bhi tera, Jibreel bhi, Quran bhi tera
[Muhammad is yours, Gabriel is yours, The Qur'an is Yours]
Magar ye harf-e-shireen tarjuman tera hai ya mera
[But this discourse, This exposition in melodious tunes, Is it Yours or is it mine?]

Sazaa chahta hoon, bada be-adab hoon...
[I am very insolent, punishment I desire]

Meri jafa talbi ko duaen deta hai
[Greatfully remembers my love of hardship]
Woh dasht-e-sada, woh tera jahaan-e-bebunyad
[That stark wilderness, that substantial world of Yours]

Maqam-e-shauq tere qudsiyon ke bas ka nahi
[The station of love is beyond the reach of Your angels]
Unhi ka kaam hai jin ke honsle hai zayyad
[Only that of dauntless courage are up to it]

Sazaa chahta hoon, bada be-adab hoon...
[I am very insolent, punishment I desire]

Huzur-e-haq mein israfeel ne meri shikayat ki
[When to The Lord I was denounced for crying Doomsday]
Ye banda waqt se pehle qayamat kar na de barpa
[Too soon, by that Archangel who must blow its trumpet]

Mein sazaa chahta hoon, bada be-adab hoon...
[I am very insolent, punishment I desire]

Bagh-e-bahisht se mujhe hukum-e-safar diya tha kyun
[Why did you order me to quit the garden of Eden]
Kaar-e-jahaan daraz hai, ab mera intezaar kar
[Now there is much to be done here-so just wait for me]

Sazaa chahta hoon, bada be-adab hoon...
[I am very insolent, punishment I desire]

Farig toh na baithega mehshar mein junoon mera
[On the day of Judgement too my frenzy will not let me rest]
Ya apna girebaan chaak ya daaman-e-yazdaan chaak
[With mighty God I shall contend or rend to fragments my own vest]

Mein sazaa chahta hoon, bada be-adab hoon...
[I am very insolent, punishment I desire]

Roz-e-hisaab jab mera paish ho daftar-e-amal
[When the roll of my deeds is brought up to the Day of Reckoning]
Aap bhi sharmsaar ho, mujh ko bhi sharmsaar kar
[Be ashamed as You will shame me]

Sazaa chahta hoon, bada be-adab hoon...
[I am very insolent, punishment I desire]

Hum ko jamiat-e-khatir ye pareshani thi
[The glad travail we sought for You Rejoiced our souls and was our pride]
Warna Ummat tere Mehboob ki diwani thi
[Thinkst you the followers of Your friend insanely spread your truth so wide]

Hum se pehle tha ajab tere jahan ka manzar
[Before we came, how strange a sight was the most beauteous world of Thine(yours)!]
Kahin masjood the pattar, kahi maboot shajar
[For here to stones men bowed their heads, and there in trees did 'gods' enshrine]

Khugar-e-paikar-e-mehsoos thi insaan ki nazar
[The unenlightened mind could seize nought else but what their eyes could see]
Manta phir koi un-dekhe Khuda ko kyunkar
[You know, Lord, Your writ ran not-Man neither knew nor worshipped Thee (You)!]

Tujh ko maloom hai leta tha koi naam tera
[You canst You say that even once one of these did Your name recite?]
Quwwat-e-baazoo-e-muslim ne kiya kaam tera
[It was the might of Muslim arms fulfilled Your task and gave them Light]

Sazaa chahta hoon, bada be-adab hoon...
[I am very insolent, punishment I desire]

Safah-e-daher se baatil ko mitaya hum ne
[Whose striving, from this world of mine, it's falsehood did effice?]
nau-e-insaan ko ghulami se chhudaya hum ne
[Whose toil, from age-old ignorance set free the human race?]

Tere kaabe ko jabeeno se basaya hum ne
[We who with myraid sajdas filled your Holy Ka'ba's hallowed shrine]
Tere qaran ko seeno se lagaya hum ne
[Whose bosoms reverently held Your great and glorious Brook Divine]

Phir bhi hum se yeh gila hai ke wafadar nahin
[If our meed still the obloquy that we have shirked the faithful's part]
Hum wafadar nahi, tu bhi toh dildar nahin
[How then canst You make claim to be the kindly faith-compelling heart?]

Mein sazaa chahta hoon, bada be-adab hoon...
[I am very insolent, punishment I desire]

Ummatein aur bhi hai, in mein gunhagaar bhi hai
[For there are those of other faiths Among whom many sinners]
Ejz wale bhi hai, mast-e-mai-e-pindar bhi hai
[Some humble, others puffed with pride, Drunken in their effrontery]

In mein kahil bhi hai, ghafil bhi hai, hushyar bhi hai
[If some have vision, thousands are of little worth, neglectful, worse]
saikdon hain ke tere naam se bezaar bhi hai
[And millions upon millions live from Your dear, glorious name averse]

Rehmatein hai teri aghiyar ke kashaano par
[Yet see how still Your bounties rain on roofs of unbelieving clans]
Barq girti hai toh bechaare musalmaano par
[While strikes your thunder-bolt the home of all-forebearing Mussalmans]

Sazaa chahta hoon, bada be-adab hoon...
[I am very insolent, punishment I desire]

Boott sanam khanon mein kehte hain, musalmaan gaye
[In idol-houses, hark! they say, "Behold, the Muslim star sinks low"]
Hai khushi in ko ke kaabe ke nigehbaan gaye
[How glad they are that now at least Your Ka'ba's brave protectors go]

Manzil-e-dehr se unthon ke hudi khawan gaye
[They say, "The world is well rid now of hymn-reciting camel-men]
Apni baglon mein dabaye hue qaran gaye
[Their Quran folded in their arms, At last they hie them from our ken!]

Khandah zan kufr hai, ehsaas tujhe hai ke nahin
[Thus they rejoice who own You not; Yet still unmindful seemest You]
Apni touheed ka kuch paas tujhe hai ke nahin
[Of Yours own One-ness, Your tawhid-Are You so unregarding now?]

Sazaa chahta hoon, bada be-adab hoon...
[I am very insolent, punishment I desire]

Tere ishq ki inteha chahta hoon
[Completion of your Love is what I desire]
Meri saadgi dekh, kya chahta hoon
[Look at my sincerity, what little I desire]
