Shakespeare portrays Antony’s character in two important ways by his belief he does not care who is king, and by the use of his persuasion / rhetorical techniques.

A major part of the portrays of Antony s concerns about his political and personal beliefs. ‘’ Yet Brutes says he was ambitious, and Brutes is an honorable man’’(Antony’s speech) . It means that Brutus is a good man and a good friend with Caesar. It is saying that everyone thought Brutes was a good person, and a good friend. ‘’ I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him’’ (Antony’s speech). It is saying he did not come to say good things about Caesar. It is saying that he told people that Caesar is dead, and the people are not praising him. Al of these beliefs, both political and personal, reveals Antony’s true character.

Antony's persuasion and rhetorical questioning is important in the story of Julius Caesar. ‘’ Bear with me; my heart is in the coffin there with Caesar, and I must pause till it comes back to me’’ (Antony’s speech). It is saying that his heart, and soul is in the coffin with Caesar. I think it means that he has to find a new way to persuade the crowd of Rome. ‘’You all did love him once, not without cause what cause withholds you then to mourn for him (Antony’s speech). It’s saying that they loved him once, but not for a good cause. I think it means the people loved him but now they won’t cry for him because he is dead. All of these persuasion and rhetorical techniques show Antony’s true character.

Each of these two aspects – Beliefs, and Persuasion combine to paint a full picture of Antony’s Character in the story of Julius Caesar,and in the play of Julius Caesar.
