Creation essay
The genesis and Greek creation stories are both similar different in how they use literary archetypes. Both the Greek and genesis creation stories utilize villain archetype.
“Cronus swallowed each of his children as they were born (Greek myth).” This proves that Cronus is filling up the role of the villain archetype. Cronus’s lust power is so great that he selfishly sacrifices his own children to keep the throne. “Cain has words with his brother. They were out in the field; Cain came at Abel, his brother and killed him (genesis).”This proves that Cain and Abel have a sibling rivalry. Cain was jealous that god liked his brother brother, he was envious. Cain’s hate towards his brother makes him go to the extent to kill him brother. These examples show both stories using the villain archetype.
The Greek and genesis creation stories also contrast with the former having an epic battle or father/son rivalry and also the latter garden archetype. “Cronus grabbed his father and castrated him, with the stone sickle, throwing the severed genitals into the ocean. This proves that there was a father/son rivalry in the Greek creation story. Since Uranus was trying to destroy his kids just so that he could keep the throne, his son tried killing him. “The Tree-of-Life was in the middle of the garden, also the Tree-of- Knowledge-of -good- and-evil. “This proves that everything in the garden was good, except that one tree.it was full of good, trees, plants, and animals, the only thing that was evil in the Garden of Eden was the serpent and the tree with the poisonous fruit. These two archetype shows that both creation stories also had different archetypes.
