Darren Criss
An Apology for Dumb Lyrics (Live)
[DARREN, spoken]
Do you guys recognise this guitar? Up to the old tricks. Uh, Harry Potter is kind of a silly character in our shows and he tended to just bring a guitar out and sing about random stuff when he didn't know what else to do. Uh, art imitates life a little bit on that one. Uh, so Harry had a tendency to write really goofy lyrics which is a way of me apologising for some of the dumb lyrics you're about to hear, that I, and many of us now, hold so dear- so hold so dear, uh- years later. I'm gonna try a little experiment with you guys, it seems like you're pretty good at singing, but I'm gonna try a specific experiment when I look up at you with longing that'll be your cue to do something, and if you know what to do then it'll be a good litmus test as to how we can proceed, okay? This is a song that Harry wrote to his hopeful girlfriend
(sung)
You're tall and fun and skinny
You're really, really pretty
Cho Chang
I'm the Mickey to your Minnie
You're the Tigger to my Winnie
Cho Chang
Wanna take you to the city
Wanna take you out to dinney
Cho Chang
(spoken)
Here it comes
(sung)
You're cuter than a guinea pig
I wanna take you up to Winnipeg
(audience) That's in Canada!
(spoken)
Okay, we're in business. Now full disclosure, this is a song that I recommended that we would cut 'cause I wanted to make room for other songs. Uh, but I think my heart has been warmed, not only by the audience participation on this one, but I didn't really realise just how silly and how much warmth this song gave my silly, weird heart. If you've ever wondered how to kind of put a big, scary animal at peace, I recommend singing a song to it
