Astronaut
All I ever wanted to be was an astronaut
Before the so-called life got in the way
Eight miles high, I turn the light switch on
And laugh at all the games I used to play

But I had a dream when I was seven
Secret door at the back of heaven
I woke up the second I walked in

And over time the dream got old and faded
And everything just gets so complicated

I watched them send the rocket up in Florida
And everybody cheered and waved goodbye
I imagined it was me up in the captains chair
Leaving laws of gravity behind

Now the weight is heavy on my shoulders
Nine to five, I'm getting older
Truth be told, it really ain't that bad

And over time the dream got old and faded
And everything just gets so complicated

Well all I ever wanted to be was an astronaut
I guess it's a little late for that right now
And I get up every morning just to punch the clock
And take the number 80 bus 'cross town

Well I try my best not to regret it
Most of the time I just forget it
Maybe another place, some other time
Cause after all the dream got old and faded
And everything just gets so complicated
But all I ever wanted to be was an astronaut
