Backwater Rising
Backwater rising
Flooding the fields
The levee is broken
Soon the crops will drown
Who is this stranger
Wearing my face
I need an anchor
To hold my place
Feel the water pulling at my feet
Trying to take away myself from me
But I won’t be the one to shed my skin
To find the end you have to begin somewhere
Lost my dice in the river
Betting quarters at a time
The sickness of wanting
What’s not mine
Empty bottles and road signs
One traffic light
Just waiting on the right shade of green
Feel the water pulling at my feet
Trying to take away myself from me
But I won’t be the one to shed my skin
To find the end you have to begin somewhere
Feel the water
Feel the water now
Feel the water I won't shed my skin
Feel the water now
Because I finally love myself
The house is still standing
Rotting slow in tall weeds
But you can still find shelter
In the limbs of dead trees
