GDP
Children Posing
We never made the same song twice
Blunts saved my life
GDP is like a renaissance man
If I don't say so myself
Just cause I bought a 12 pack
Doesn't mean I got to drink all 12
But somehow I always do (wasted again)
A product to the habits we assume
Developed in between states of sleep and awake
But never can pinpoint where it is we change
Meanwhile aging this persona I create
Versus the person I am on and off stage
We portray the lifestyle the music calls for
Forming allies that benefit our own internal wars
And own songs, and own albums
Excessive demands and unrealistic outcomes
We convince ourselves who we really are
Based on a fantasy created within bars
But it transforms our actual perceptions
Hip hop is a mentality or death sentence I can't call it
But still try to put words to thoughts
I get lost in between angst and flossin'
It's like the music makes me make the music
Striving for semi permanent solutions
We're living life like tomorrow is a month away
By now I been drunk in every fucking state I care to visit
With very loose women
Spitting what I don't realize until it's written
We never made the same song twice
I heard them make songs a hundred fucking times
They get too comfortable or preoccupied
Or better yet, rep what doesn't even relate to you
Thought pimping their Myspace pages was paying dues
Mimicking their most favorite groups
Finicking around the cusp but never breaking through
(When we played our charade, we were like children posing)
We never made the same song twice
There's room for error, but GDP is like
A jack of all trades
With an Ace up the sleeve
In a Queen Dungaree vest
Screaming on em like Kid Capri
It seem like an easy notion, be dopest
But pop hops more heavily promoted
Play the role and not a word is spoken
That chain is a leash and they'll yank it until your house broken
I started freestyling back in the day
And internalized everything from Dre to Positive K
To Rae the Chef, to Slick and Doug E Fresh
And never once second guessed the music's effect
On my self development, for better or for worse
Spray paint and burns, windmills and herb
Meant more to me than any classroom or church
So think twice before you think
And that's my word
