Paste Studio Live 12/17/2018: About Touring (Transcript)
[Applause]

Ross Monteith: (Thanks.)

Host: Alright, this is great. And thanks for sharing all these with us. And we've got, there’s a fourth— Oh wait, before we jump in to more music, people can see you guys live at the Independent—the House of Independents, excuse me—in Asbury Park on December 22. So you guys are doing that show—a holiday party, a Christmas show—with Shoobies and Sonic Bloom opening. And that sounds like it'll be a ton of fun. And also further into 2019, you guys are gonna be at the Easton Theater in Easton, PA. That's February 2. And so congratulations are in order too—you guys just relatively recently, very recently, wrapped a sixty-six date headlining tour— Did I write that down correctly?

Calvin Langman: (Yeah.)

Host: That’s a lot of dates.

Langman: Is it? We had like two months down the road. I thought that's normal. People keep telling us it's a lot but I could be on the road forever. I love it.

Host: Wait, you guys fit sixty-six dates into two months?

Monteith: Oh, so it's sixty-six days long.

Langman: Oh yeah, we play like thirty-three shows.

Host: (Oh, okay, okay.)

Luke Davis: Oh my gosh, if we played sixty-six shows in two months, dude, I don't know if we'd be here.

Host: That, well, regardless, that is a whole lot of shows, so congratulations are in order. Well done.

Band: Thank you.
Monteith: Yeah, we got back I think three weeks ago—I think it was three weeks ago, yeah.

Davis: (We don't even remember anymore.)

Langman: It was five—

Monteith: (Oh, was it?)

Langman: Wait, four, it was four.

Monteith: Four weeks ago? Yeah, I don't know. When you’re on the road, you’re— You kind of lose track of time. You just kinda focus on where you're going.

Davis: And when you get back, you still don’t have time to— The conceptualization of it. And just like, it happens.

Host: You take a couple weeks to decompress and get perspective on the whole thing again?

Monteith & Langman: (Yeah.)

Davis: It's just like constant jetlag. But, you know, that's show[?], baby.

Langman: The first day we got back, though, when we got home, it felt like we never left. Like I thought I was gonna go with Tyler and go to his little loft and start looking for more bands to book, and like we never went on tour in the first place.

Davis: Tyler's our tour manager, and a G homie, so yeah. He was on the road with us.

Monteith: Yeah. It was a lot of fun. And we’re really looking forward to this show. It's on next Saturday in Asbury Park. But yeah, should be fun. Last show of the year, I guess.
Langman: We're trying to make it our biggest show ever.

Host: Nice, well that sounds like a ton of fun. Can you tell us what's coming up next? The fourth bonus— What's the bonus song gonna be today?

Langman: We're gonna be playing "Too Late". It's the first song off of our EP Awfully Apeelin'. And yeah, it's all about growing up—I'm about to be twenty-one in like two weeks.

Host: Jesus Christ, dude, I need to do so much better with my life.

Langman: [Laughs] No!

Host: Alright, you guys are doing great.

Monteith: (Thank you.)

Host: I'm gonna try harder, I promise you that. Maybe next time you guys show up I'll just be—

Davis: You're doing an awesome job, man.

Host: Thank you. I'm doing my best here. You guys are doing wonderful, man, it really is, in all sincerity, making sounds that are far beyond what I would expect a group— Are you guys all twenty-ish?

Davis: I'm twenty-two.

Monteith: Yeah. I'm nineteen. Or wait no, oh my god I'm twenty. What am I talking about? Yeah, I'm twenty, [Points to Langman] he's almost twenty-one, [Points to Davis] and he's twenty-two. Yeah.

Host: Well it's surprising and refreshing and sophisticated what's coming out of you guys, every time I hear your band. So it's— I like it.
Davis: I really would love for you to just wake me up everyday and be like, "Keep doing what you're doing!"

Host: (And be your hypeman a hundred percent.)

So "Too Late"?

Langman: "Too Late", yeah.
