Beneath the Water

[Benji?]
Right at midnight
These many weeks
He watched me diving
Beneath the water
At the start, he stayed his distance
With a strange kind of coexistence

Until the tea
Fresh from his stove
Just him and me
In that quiet cove
And when I handed back his cup
I whispered, "Thanks, you warmed me up"
And I dove
Beneath the water

But then last night, he asked

[?]
"May I join you?"

[? & ?]
Please take me diving
Bеneath the water
[?]
I shook my hеad
"There's too much danger
And to you, I'm all but a stranger"
Yet undeterred
He poured us whisky
A teasing word
And then he kissed me

So we tripped down that sandy slope
And I uncoiled my safety rope
I moored his waist onto the rock
And then to sea, in love and shock

[?, (?)]
We dove (We dove)
Beneath the water (Beneath the water)
Beneath the water

[?]
He held his breath
Just like a wonder
Like his whole life, he'd been doing it
And we found my shipwreck
I showed him all
My precious plunder
Like an auctioneer debuting it
My glorious shipwreck
The moment's halt
Back up for air
Then to the vault
But he wasn't there

I swam to check
Found him caught
By the wreck
With the rope around his neck
And I tried to free the knot, the knot
I tried to cut the moor
But more and more
My breath distraught
I'd no choice but to get back to shore
I'd come back for him
I swore

Traced the rope line
And found him there
There's no surviving
Beneath the water
Layed him out
What could I do, then?
Fled so fast
Flying home to you, then
My body's here
Yes that, I know
But still, I fear
I am chained below
I'm damned to hear him in the swell
And find his face in every wave
Beneath the water
Beneath the water

Where my heart lays in his grave
