I Remember 2006
A Fever / Spores
My skin cracks and peels like birch bark
I'm consumed by a great fever
A fever dream
Subdued consciousness from a sedative
My fever's a hallucinogen
I inhale the mycelium as it replaces my nerves
My hair into a mushroom cap
My body the unforgiving stem; my feet planted firmly
As the mycelium bursts from the fragments of my soles and toes
I feed on the rotting flesh, semen, blood, shit, and piss of my loved ones
I watch them die and I eagerly wait for my spores to latch on
To apply the effects of decomposition to this vessel before I weep; for I recognize this as my sister, but her eyes are vacant---I ate those, too
"What have I done to you?" I cry out
I feel not only disdain but disgust as my guts turn inside out; I ate my sister in my fungal form
All I am is a bottom feeder; a scavenger looking for scraps of the remains of those I once loved
They're none the wiser when they pick me up and consume me
And that's when I awaken; cold sweats and blurry vision
