The Hill Country Devil
Tarot Card
And so came the sudden grace, the draw of a tarot card
Winds carry winter rain, envy on a bullet train
Hopeful for a clear lit sign from the radio
But the songs all sound the same, the message never came
And it’s easier to cling to nothing than to let it go
Pain gives birth to lies, patterns will always show
And at the deepest pits of the labyrinths sit their rotten cores
Schemes for easy wealth, dreams of finished wars

Suspend belief, finish what you start
Paint the maps rеd, keep the clutch bled
And bare your teeth bеneath the marble arch
Give in to greed, shed honesty

A circus of conceit, hollow precedents
The score is paid no mind, blind leading the blind
And a sultry woman smiles in her decadence
Scars all painted white, bellow pleasure in the night
The traitors always thrive despite the evidence
A cost that’s paid with iron and the hunger of desire
Now the points upon the stag are deemed irrelevant
The end holds equal weight, all trophies are the same

The burden of peace, chaotic needs
Phone in your love, keep your guts tucked
Sucker someone in, fuck all their friends
In a promise ring, kill all the kings
Feel relief wipe your conscience clean
Save the warm months for the storefronts
And sell deceit, call it winter’s dream
And claim your loot, the forbidden fruit
And so came the sudden grace, the draw of a tarot card
Winds carry winter rain, envy on a bullet train
