The Hill Country Devil
Tar and Feather
Well, I’m playing now for keeps
Of the stars beneath my feet
Riding in the belly of a curse

And I’m showing all my tales
Toss a quarter in every well
Hope to plant my seed of lustful greed
And claim the winter spurs

I got marbles in my mouth
Tears that’d conquer any drought
Confusing where I’ve been with where I’m from

Oh, I’ve paid the heavy tax
For having wings all made of wax
Oh, the violent rage swept me away
When I kissed that summer sun

Oh, I’m dumber than a rock
A shattered key inside a lock

And even tarrеd and feathered
Oh, I’ll bravе the weather at any cost

And if both my hands do fall
Ill bash my god damn head through the wall

And I’ll cut my teeth on the do re me’s
Of the never-ending stream
Until I can find the meaning of it all

Mighty leap into the fray
I’m abandoning my name
Already shed my skid with everything I am

And I’m shattered on the ground
A stranger in my own hometown
Max your bet, overcorrect
You level out the land

God is spewing blood and mass
So many men I loved of past
Wonder if its selfish that I stayed

Boys you can play your best hand
You can try and understand

Or stay wild eyed through brittle pride
Take the sorry dealing stride
And hope that you don’t raise the tide
Rolling in the grave

Oh, I’m dumber than a rock
A shattered key inside a lock

And even tarred and feathered
Oh, I’ll brave the weather at any cost

And if both my hands do fall
Ill bash my god damn head through the wall

And I’ll cut my teeth on the do re me’s
Of the never-ending stream
Until I can find the meaning of it all
