The Flatliners
Open Hearts and Bloody Grins
Devious grin spreads ear to ear across the face of adversity
These bones are rattled dry
And sweat pours covering these ivory keys
And from across the room, distant eyes watch the whole scene explode
Like fireworks we all explode
We're running out of alcohol to fuel this fire
And down the hall, the only door out of this place is locked
What's left of the billowing smoke has caught up and my lungs are dissipating
But there's no need to dry your eyes
Because after all
We are the ones here to blame
Not saying anything, not playing this game
Just now remember to forget, forget everything
This room is filling up with blood I never learned to swim
These walls fall to the ground
The sky opens up, looking like the end for you, you motherfucker
This twisted head of mine will keep me here
These jaded eyes see far and wide and crystal clear
Right now I'm willing to make a mistake
If it means that everything will change
Because I don't breathe anymore
And my escape is fucking off
So tell me, how exactly did things come to this?
I feel sick
My hands are burning up
Can you feel that heat?
We are the ones here to blame
Not saying anything, not playing this game
Just now remember to forget, forget everything
We are the ones here to blame
Red faces and the promise of a tragedy
These ashes blacken hands of regret, you see
And so we've learned to watch our backs
And you're watching our swollen lungs collapse
It's the death of something so strong
And we've made amends amidst this mess
And shaken the hands of which we protest
I think I'm blacking out
We'll walk this line until the day we die
And wipe the sweat that for years has been stinging our eyes
And for the first time I've come to realize
