Lin-Manuel Miranda
Your Eyes (A Thousand Games) [Workshop]
[NARRATION]
Across town at the 168th street subway station Nina is on a pay phone

[NINA]
Last night we played a thousand games
He didn’t stay but all the same you saw how close we came to something
Towards the end when we were dancing slow
He was trying to tell me something I know
But I couldn’t read the look on his face
He was-
Vanessa I gotta go-
Well look who’s here. Small world, how are you dear?

[BENNY]
I’m doing okay. How about you?

[NINA]
Can’t complain. I’m okay too

[BENNY]
Are you waiting for the A?

[NINA]
Yup yup. Always delayed

[BENNY]
That’s just great and on the summer’s hottest day
[NINA]
Not much to do but wait. It’s hot but at least we know in this heat
That the train is really gonna seem like paradise
When that air conditioning cools your skin
When you’re on there waiting you don’t really care at all
How hot you’ve been

[BENNY]
-cough-
I guess that’s true. You may be right

[NINA]
I know I’m right!

[BENNY]
Not like Lincoln who’ll always find a way to see the brighter side, not me
I see: Benny get off the train, broken water main is gonna keep us on the station, assumption; we’ll have to pay a tab and take a heavy cab to some old man who pays like dog shit and shop lift, and if get a seat my ass will have to meet the fucking lunatic who rides beside me who hasn’t showered since 93’
That’s the kinda shit I see

[NINA]
You’re really cute when you’re upset

[BENNY]
It’s obvious you don’t know me yet

[NINA]
Tell me a little more then
Cuz we might have to wait a long time for paradise
So I guess we have a little time to kill
[BENNY]
What do you want to do just stare in my eyes?

[NINA]
Perhaps I will

[NINA]
I look into your eyes and I see pain

[BENNY]
-scoff- You’re insane

[NINA]
You wear contacts
Now look in mine and tell me what you see

[BENNY]
I see my reflection -chuckles-

[NINA]
Look beyond that

[BENNY]
Alright you win
I can’t begin to read your mind
You were the kid who always hid when I’d come by
Back then you were kinda shy
[NINA]
I’m hotter than I’ve ever been

[BENNY]
You’ve got that right

[NINA]
What does that mean?

[BENNY]
Uh, it’s…really humid

[NINA]
Oh
I’ve got a few questions for you

[BENNY]
About last night?

[NINA]
Yes exactly. Stop me if this sounds stupid

[BENNY]
Go ahead

[NINA]
Well I had an awesome time
I had never been to the club before
But the blackout was insane and I
Think I lost the chain I wore
I was wondering if you’d seen it
In the club when we were dancing

[BENNY]
Is that really what you wanted to ask me?

[NINA]
You tell me

[BENNY]
What exactly do you want me to say?

[NINA]
Anything

-kissing-

[NINA]
Benny I’m missing my train

[BENNY]
That’s alright they’ll be another one

-kissing-

[NINA]
Benny I have to go

[BENNY]
It’ll be alright. Wait with me, c’mon

[NINA]
I have to leave

[BENNY]
Alright. I’ll call you

[NINA]
I’ll be home after seven

[BENNY]
Okay

(At the same time)
Benny: Bye
Nina: See ya

[BENNY]
Nina! Nina you can’t tell your brother
