Somewhere In The City

Somewhere in the city

Behind an office desk

On the fifth or maybe sixth floor

A deadline around her neck

I can see her eyes

Lit up by the screen

In the fading day

As night comes closing in

It was something with e-trade

Or whatever was the word

Of the day there was a contract

A client with an urge

She’s just too tired to think

With no time to meet the man

Who stands beneath that window

Five or six floors down

She’s too tired to think

No time to meet the man

Standing underneath that window

Five or six floors down

On the street where lovers meet

Walking in the rain

Celebrating anniversaries

Planning trips to Spain

Holding hands together

Underneath a coat

In the back row of a theatre

In a taxi going home

So, he walks away

So, he walks away

No time to meet the man

Who’s standing in the rain

Underneath a street lamp

Five or six floors down

So he’s entering the wall

Of darkness ‘round the light

He sparkles for a moment

And is swallowed by the night

So, I walk away

So, I walk away
