Inspectah KP
Blessed
[Verse 1]
Elementary school I was a playa complimentary fool
Passin’ notes under the table wonder what her’s said
What she wrote, somethin’ like handsome and nice
Always very concise but for me they sufficed
I felt included in the action, part of the prominent faction
Driven by a reaction, to simple juvenile attraction
None of us out of it, no one of us above the rest
Some of us feelin’ better than the dumb of us on them science tests
But that’s the best part, never stressed
Whether blessed, smart, or havin’ trouble readin’ the depth chart
Nobody cared about an a or b, dropout or Ph.D
We was just feelin’ free on the first mile of our grand prix

[Hook]
It’s funny - we all go to school
Growin’ up, all thinkin’ we recievin’ the tools
For success - but trust me, if you stressin’ ‘bout math
I can guarantee you that you on the wrong path
Just think about it man, it ain’t impossible to see
Havin’ only good grades ain’t who you wanna be
Listen - your youth is not about a score on a test
It’s about findin’ the people who stick with you for the rest
Of your life

[Verse 2]
Look
Middle school comes around
Some of my classmates jokin’, really startin’ to clown
Teachers and parents like broken records - you better get down
On them grades so when you bigger you wearin’ the crown
Well hey, grade school me took that message to heart
Just a’s, not a single b, look at my report card
Flexin’ on my friends, like, man, this class ain’t even hard
Yeah, left my friendships a little scarred
High school, I finally saw my dilemma
It was not cool to think of myself as better
I was lame, nerd, or that pretentious prick
Which was popular opinion? Man, take your pick
They was all right, I was not all right
Facin’ a new fight against my reputation and the past -
The most important lesson I took outta those years:
Sometimes it’s best to take a step back and finish last

[Hook]
It’s funny - we all go to school
Growin’ up, all thinkin’ we recievin’ the tools
For success - but trust me, if you stressin’ ‘bout math

[Verse 3]
So I started hangin’ with some new groups
You know, testin’ the waters
I figured out pretty quick that hangin’ with the clique
Is a lot more fun than some lessons on college
But I figured somethin’ else out too
At first it’s easy, people like you, you’re new
Everyone’s interested in somebody different
Like yeah, what’s up man, welcome to the crew
After a while though things start to change
You get too familiar and the roles rearrange
You ain’t an OG, you weren’t there at the start
Because of the timing you can’t play the same part
As the originals - Put yourself in their shoes
Someone you met a month ago don’t know what you’ve been through
They ain’t your first call when you got somethin’ that hurts
That’s not unfair to them, that’s just how the world works
Look, friendship takes time to grow
It takes years to build up some people you really know
If you don’t have that, keep going, try your best
And if you already got it, just know that you’re blessed

[Hook x2]
It’s funny - we all go to school
Growin’ up, all thinkin’ we recievin’ the tools
For success - but trust me, if you stressin’ ‘bout math
I can guarantee you that you on the wrong path
