Stonewall Poem

[Verse: AnnaMelina]
I remember you building this wall around our front house
You stole rocks from the port
Sometimes you took me with you
We had to be quiet
You carried most of the rocks and I kept watch
You told me you wanted them to be beautiful, big and heavy
It took you a while to build it
When you were finished, we always used to sit against it in the sun
Snakes came as well. I liked them
I wasn't afraid of snakes back then
It was peaceful, I felt safe somehow
It's hard to mount on knowing what happened at that place
Anyways, I know the wall is still standing
I know because I visited not too long ago
I wanted to see it or not see it, but feel it for myself
It doesn't look the same
The stone is not white anymore
And the grass hasn't been cut in a while, I think
It was overgrown, covering most of the rocks
We went there together once before
I remember we both cried
When I saw what you did, I stopped
I felt you had no right to cry
Nobody took it away from you
You stole it, it wasn't yours to sell
It's not about the money
It's about the memories you so desperately want to feel, but you can't
So you decided to kill them
But we both know they can't die
They're not yours
They're mine
