[Verse: Ja Rule, Interviewer]
Y'know, during my journey
I was in a lot of churches, man
A-and I sit there and, y'know
We'd do like a little Q&A thing, we'd get up on stage and people would ask me and say "Yo, y'know, Ja, are you saved? Do you accept Christ in your life?"
And I'd be like, y'know, "I'm not there yet"
Right
"Y'know, I'm kinda-
Y'know, I love God, of course, y'know, like everybody else, y'know I believe in God
But y'know, I'm kinda takin' baby steps
I'm kinda, y'know-"
But what I was really saying is "I don't feel like I'm a part of this, yet."
Hmm
"I don't feel welcome"
"I don't feel like-"
Wow
Because you know, it's difficult, when people going to church
Y'know, for the first time
Which was a lot of first times for me
Y'know um-
'Cause you grew up a Jehovah's Witness
I grew up a Jehovah's Witness
Y'know, that really put a black eye on religion for me for a long long time
Wow
'Cause that's a really strict religion
And it really deterred me from religion, but
Once I started going back into the church, I just didn't feel like I was welcome
Y'know, you go into the church and they say "Come as you are", but do they really mean it?
They don't mean it
Y'know what I mean?
I heard today
I was doing a show today
And they was a Christian show, up in a church
And they were saying, like, they were at some church and they were turning people away
Are you serious?
That's the same face I made!
I ain't never heard of that!
They were turning people away at church, like "No, you can't worship here, we good", y'know what I mean?
So that, that really made me think about what I was saying was real, 'cause sometimes people just don't feel like they belong
