Emily Wolfe
Metal Roses
I feel just like my father on his graduation day
Stuck with no ambition
Metal roses wrapped with lace
And pleading around on doorsteps ringing hopeless bells
Hiding under floor boards and concrete water wells
I sound just like my sister pulling off her diamond ring
Stuck with his decisions though she’s loving hopelessly
We know she hides it well -
That she’s afraid of wedding bells
I look just like his father leaving roses under lakes
I know God’s above burning stars
I wish you could relate
He knew the future’s halogen and saw us fall apart
Son and daughter listening:
Untie your yielding heart
I don’t feel like anybody else
And your eyes put my heart up on a shelf
My glasses broke but I still see everything
And hopelessly I cave
In taking chances
