Joriah Kwame
at monet’s
[Hanna, Jessica & Alex]
Two cups of chocolate and one cup of coffee
So three cups of something to numb
Yum
New Girl and New Girl, Boy balancing two girls
One needs his ear, one falls in love
Fun
Playing pretend like the scene never ends
Each sip warming the friends for a while
With each passing second, already forgetting Monet’s

Let’s rewind time to when this was alive
Before scandal made Standall the punk
Let us reverse to before Jessica mеssed up
Hannah was tangible once
Brеaking bread over the doubts in their heads
So at night in their beds they can rest

[Jessica]
A nostalgic phase

[Alex]
Caffeinated days

[All]
At Monet’s...
[Alex]
Sugar may rush but amphetamine hushes the fire
Too much for my desk
Sit at a table with two people able to feel
And you’ll reel cause the fire retired returns
But this time there’s no burns, just steam in your cups

[All]
Two cups of chocolate and one cup of coffee
Best friends just relax for a while

[Alex]
We can relax

[Jessica and Alex]
Two of them quietly playing a private scene

[Hannah]
One of them faking their smile...

[All]
If they all knew that all they had to do was stop hiding
They’d probably be found
Ignorance to this, is the price of bliss at Monet’s

[Jessica]
But jealousy adds bitterness to the chocolate
And makes it somewhat more obliged
You can’t hide from the fear
That the face cross the table competes with yours
[Hannah and Jessica]
Something changes, and then somehow makes it
So balance is gone

[Alex]
And so Alex is gone

[Hannah]
And there’s two cups of chocolate

[Jessica]
A chair almost haunted

[Both]
Blank stares and small talk as they sip
Skip
Forward a week or two

[Jessica]
Jessica flees then too

[Hannah]
Hannah wonders what she did
She still shows up every day for a month
And replays all the moments before
Reality’s setting, Hannah’s never getting back Monet’s
