Rising Appalachia
Oh Death
Ummh, ummh...
[Chorus: Leah Song, Chloe Smith]
Oh death
Oh death
Won’t you spare me over for another year
Oh death
Oh death
Won’t you spare me over for another year
[Verse 1: Leah Song, Chloe Smith]
Mother came unto my bed
Placed a towel upon my head
Head is warm my feet are cold
Death is movin’ upon my soul
[Chorus: Leah Song, Chloe Smith]
Oh death
Oh death
Won’t you spare me over for another year
Oh death
Oh death
Won’t you spare me over for another year
[Verse 2: Leah Song, Chloe Smith]
Oh death how you’re treatin’ me
You close my еyes so I can't see
You’re hurtin’ my body, your makin’ me cold
You run my lifе right outta my soul
[Chorus: Leah Song, Chloe Smith]
Oh death
Oh death
Won’t you spare me over for another year
Oh death
Oh death
Won’t you spare me over for another year
[Verse 3: Leah Song, Chloe Smith]
Oh, the young, the rich, the poor
Makes no difference who you are
No wealth, no land, no silver, no gold
Nothing satisfies but your soul
[Chorus: Leah Song, Chloe Smith]
Oh death
Oh death
Won’t you spare me over for another year
Oh death
Oh death
Won’t you spare me over for another year
[Verse 4: Leah Song]
No, death keep your hands off my chest
And I keep waiting for one final breath
I know I may not pass this final test
But, oh death, oh death, oh death, death-th-th
[Verse 5: Leah Song]
Oh death I raise my eyes to the sky
Give me great feathered wings to fly
But, please now is not my time to die
So, oh death, oh death, oh death, death-th-th
[Spoken Poetry: Theresa Davis]
I've been speaking with the dead
Remove from my physical proximity
But rattling through my lungs, oxygen, regimented pain
Reminding me of purpose
As I hurl myself unflinching, unblinking in the glow of luminescent tomorrows
Without you I have been speaking with the dead
She who is reluctant to reveal my amputated dreams
But keeps me in her good gracing
And because I love her I have to tell her
That there are those that would defame you
Sprinkling disreputable memories in the well waters of your goodness
Those discontents roaming aimlessly, sharing voices unheard
She speaks to me in dreams
Her melancholic whispers prevent my fevered reconsideration
She knows
She showed me my future, became my past
In what seemed like the same breath
In my remembrance I explode backwards
My rarely punctuated heartbeat runs on
Sentencing me daily to begin, again without her
Those lingering pomegranate sunsets ready me for her meticulous inspection
We see the same stars
And I will continue building this legacy we started together
Grateful that she armed me with conviction
And my condemnation will not falter in her absence
I will illuminate every horizon revealed to me
Because I'm not angry anymore
My insomniatic refusals to continue conversations
We started when she was in the flesh
No longer call from my ranker
Though, there are days when her presence is skin I never shed
There are days when the rustling of leaves resembles her laugher
And I spin on my heels seeking her face in a box of dead trees
There are days when I miss her like teeth
By I promise, I am not angry anymore
Cause I know she would have given her life to be here
And I am here
Eagerly awaiting the blanket of stars she'll cover me with
So that when slumber finally takes me
She and I, we will continue this conversation
[Chorus: Leah Song, Chloe Smith]
Oh death
Oh death
Won’t you spare me over for another year
Oh death
Oh death
Won’t you spare me over for another year
Ummh, ummh...
