Eloise picks the fleas off of the family dog
Listens for cars in the rain
It is morning for drop-outs who work at the Starbucks
Smoke cigarettes, and drink lemonade
And a rabbit is grazing the grass by the train station
David sees just before dawn
When a hawk comes to claim it and fumbles the game
And drops its prey onto the lawn
You think every day’s the same
But it’s new, and it’s brief, and it takes your breath away
Do you feel like all you do is wait
For someone else to make the damn change?
If you opened your eyes, what would you find to see?
A life you despise, a house full of lies and greed
Or would you hold on to your dream?
Lawyers and bankers all wait at the station
While David tries hard to explain
David the doctor and Eloise the patient
In the strange interaction of fate
And the rabbit gets up leaving small drops of blood
While the hawk is flying away
And several days later the rabbit limps by
And looks Eloise right in the face
You think every day’s the same
But it’s new, and it’s brief, and it takes your breath away
Do you feel like all you do is wait
For someone else to make the damn change?
If you opened your eyes, what would you find to see?
A life you despise, a house full of lies and greed
Or would you hold on to your dream?
Yeah, would you hold on to your dream?
